Software Activation Help

  1. About Software Activation
  2. Media Cybernetics' Software Activation uses your machine's Host ID combined with the Unlocking Code we send you to create a downloadable License File which allows you to run the full product on your machine. Obtaining and installing a valid License File is the goal of software activation.

  3. Where do I find my Unlocking Code?
  4. Your Unlocking Code can be found on a label on the bottom of your product box and on the back of your product manual. If you cannot find your unlocking code, contact Media Cybernetics customer service with your product serial number, place of purchase, and approximate date of purchase. Include your Host ID too if known.

  5. What is a Host ID and how do I find mine?
  6. A Host ID is a string that is automatically obtained from your machine and uniquely identifies it.

If you start your product without a license file, a "License Unavailable" window will appear and display your Host ID (see the License Unavailable window image on this page).

  7. What is the License Unavailable window all about?License Unavailable window
  8. If you start your product without a license file, a "License Unavailable" window will appear that will display your Host ID and ask you to go to our Software Activation web site.

  9. What are the boxes for Server Name and Server Host ID for?
  10. Ignore these boxes unless you purchased a server version of the product and are installing a floating license or workgroup.

The boxes for Server Name and Server Host ID in the License Unavailable window are for entering floating license information. License Managers for floating licenses are available in server versions of products. If you are installing a floating license, enter the Host ID of the Server (which may be found as described on this page) and enter the server's name as defined in Windows. Right click the My Computer icon on the Windows desktop and choose properties to find the server's name. A detailed quick installation guide which explains how to install and configure both floating licenses and a license manager is included with server versions of IQbase.

  11. I am not connected to the internet. How do I obtain a license file so that I can run my product?
  12. If you start your product without a license file, a "License Unavailable" window will appear that will display your Host ID and ask you to go to our Software Activation web site.

If you can't go to the Software Activation web site from the machine where you are installing the product, you can still download your license file from another machine:

    1. After installing on the machine that is not connected to the internet, attempt to start the product and write down the Host ID that appears in the "License Unavailable" window.

    2. Go to a machine where you can get to the internet and go to http://shop.mediacy.com/activate.asp

    3. Enter the Host ID that you wrote down and the Unlocking Code that was sent to you with your product along with your contact information.

    4. Download your license file to a floppy disk. The file will have a .lic extension.

    5. Return to the original machine and copy the .lic file to the product installation directory. Example IQbase product installation directory: c:\Program Files\Media Cybernetics\IQbase\

    6. If the License Window is still open, press "Retry" and our product should start. If the License Window is not there, restart the product from the icon on the desktop.

    7. If you are still experiencing problems, please copy the Host ID that is displayed on the original machine and contact customer service with your product serial number, place of purchase, and approximate date of purchase. We will generate an Unlocking Code for you using your Host ID.

  13. Can I back up my license file? What does a license file look like and where is it found or installed?
  14. After you have obtained your license file it is a good idea to back it up. Your license file ends in the extension .lic. Example IQbase license file: IQB.lic

Your license file can be found in your product installation directory. Example IQbase product installation directory: c:\Program Files\Media Cybernetics\IQbase\

  15. What if my license file was lost or deleted and I don't have a backup?
  16. If you still have the Unlocking Code that was included with your product, all you need to do is follow the instructions in the License Unavailable window that automatically appears when you try to start your product without a valid license. You will be prompted to enter your Unlocking Code on the software activation web site. From there, you will be able to download your license again.

If you have lost your unlocking code, we can provide you with a copy of your license file if you provide customer service with your Host ID or your product serial number. Your Host ID will be diplayed in the License Unavailable window when you attempt to start your product without a license file.

  17. How do I move my product to another machine?
  18. Your license file only works with your original machine so a new license file will be required. A new license file, that works with the new machine, will need to be generated. Contact customer service with your purchase information. We will require your serial number and a reason for moving the license. Example reason: "Obtained new machine, Media Cybernetics product has been uninstalled on old machine."

If you require more than one license, please contact sales or your dealer to purchase a new license or upgrade to a floating network site license.
